TOY TRADE EVENT

Saturday, June 6th

10:30 - noon

The purpose of the toy trade is to give kids in our community something fun, and free,to do!  We are having the Crafts and Collections Fair all day, which is mostly an adult activity.  What can kids do?  They can bring the purchasing power of their used toys, books, art supplies, gadgets, bracelets, etc., and trade them with other kids!

Here is how it will work: An area will be roped off on the grass with tables in the middle.  Kids may bring up to one bag of stuff.  They can either spread out their items on a table, or they may carry their bag and trade with people at the tables.  Or they could come with a friend and one watches their items while the other shops.  Kids seem to instinctively know what the value of their items are and should trade accordingly.  NO MONEY OR FOOD ARE ALLOWED IN A TRADE.  It is stuff for stuff only!  The trading area will be supervised.

Experience has shown this is a great activity for upper elementary students.  If your child is below 3rd grade parents need to be confident their child can handle the situation as kids will be trading on their own. Also, kids can leave the trade area at anytime.

The toy trade concept came from a fifth grade classroom where students were studying about early people trading and bartering goods and services.  From what they had learned, the students planned a toy trade event to test their own trading skills. It was so well received that it became an annual event at the school!

**Parents: Please check your child's bag to assure you approve of their trading treasures.  Also confirm they have no weapons, money, food, or fireworks.**
